“For Men Only” lingerie show spices up holiday season.

To spice up the holiday season, Vicki’s Lingerie in Palmerton hosted a “For Men Only” fashion show. Lingerie-challenged men found it was the perfect time to discover the difference between a teddy and a bustier while seeing what those little pieces of fabric looked like on a real model.

The show at Vicki’s 582 Delaware store in Palmerton was modeled by Melissa and Shy. Owner Vicki hired these local first-time models for the event.

Vicki moved her lingerie shop from Bethlehem to Palmerton in February 2004. “I have family and friends here,” said Vicki. “They wanted me to come here. I thought that I would try it.”

Vicki enjoys merchandizing. She sold Fuller Brush products for 18 years when her son began selling his ceramics at the Collectors Corner Flea Market in Bethlehem Township. Vicky offered to help.

When the ceramics sold out, Vicki began selling  gifts at her flea market table. One thing led to another and Vicky began selling bridle dolls. They were popular with women planning to get married. She began to add accessories to offer to these women.

Soon, Vicki was in the lingerie business. When she discovered that there were no other independent lingerie store in the Lehigh Valley, she opened a shop.

At her Bethlehem Township shop, Vicki offered “For Men Only” lingerie fashion shows before Valentines and Christmas. She continues this practice at her Palmerton shop. This week’s Christmas show was a Palmerton first.

These shows help men pick out the perfect gift for their wives or girlfriends. One time, as Vicky tells it, a men selected an outfit and asked for it in medium and large sizes. Was he unsure of the size? “No,” said the man. “One is for my wife and the other is for my girlfriend.

Vicky explained the lingerie styles. A Teddy is cut like a one-piece bathing suit. A Bustier is a long, fancy bra with garters. A Baby Doll is a short dress. “I hold these fashion shows because a lot of men don’t know a teddy from a baby doll,” said Vicky.

“We sell to all ages,” said Vicki. “Retired men come into the shop. I think that it is nice that they still think of their wife that way to buy her something sexy.”
